Caring Coffee

For some people, coffee is a staple in their morning routine. However, making your own coffee is not always sustainable. If you use coffee pods on a daily basis, chances are you are harming the environment in many different ways. Coffee pods have been proven to end up in rivers where they wash into lakes and oceans and over time the plastic in these coffee pods break down and hurt and kill wildlife. Therefore, instead of using coffee pods everyday, I suggest using an alternative such as metal filters.

Metal coffee filters have numerous benefits. Not only do they help the environment, but they also save you time and money. Metal filters are reusable and sustainable, which makes this alternative extremely sustainable and beneficial to the environment. Metal filters also save you a lot of money because they can last for up to seven years or more and the cost ranges between $5 and $60. This also saves you time and helps you become more efficient because you do not have to make frequent trips to the grocery store to stock up on coffee pods. However, metal filters can be a bit of a struggle when cleaning them. The first step to cleaning metal filters is to remove the filter from the brewer and dump the coffee grounds into the trash can. Then you must rinse the filter, but if you did not throw all of the coffee grounds away then coffee may accumulate and clog drains over time, which poses as a huge mess no one wants to deal with. All in all, although metal coffee filters may be a pain to manage and you will have to sacrifice time out of your routine to clean them, they are definitely something you should invest in because it benefits the environment and it helps you save time and money in many ways.
